Shirley Boris Traces her Lineage Back to the American Civil War
After working as a nurse for many years, Ms. Boris retired so that she could research her ancestors
SPRINGFIELD, IL, May 5, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Shirley J. Boris, Former National President and Board of Trustees Member of Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War 1861-65, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in historical society administration.
A descendant of Civil War participants, Ms. Boris has been intrigued by her ancestry for more than four decades. As a result, she retired from her position as a nurse supervisor, charge nurse and surgical nurse and has dedicated her subsequent career to her lineage. Currently serving as a board of trustees member, she is responsible for overseeing all locations of the research library and museum in Springfield, Ill., and handling public speaking engagements. Previously, she was the national president of the group, for which she traveled the country to represent the mission of the organization: to share the stories of Union Army veterans who nobly helped to preserve the United States. This role, according to Ms. Boris, was the highlight of her 63-year career.
Ms. Boris earned an associate degree in registered nursing from the Genesee Hospital School of Nursing in 1954. She is professionally affiliated with the Genesee Hospital Nursing Association and the National Gavel Society Association. Looking forward, she intends to continue exploring her Civil War lineage.
