The Sister Soldier Project Announces Major Packing Party in Long Island, New York
The Sister Soldier Project will hold on September 24, 2011, in Long Island, New York, the largest Packing Party event in its five year history.

GROVER BEACH, CA, September 22, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The Sister Soldier Project, the national initiative that has boxed and shipped over 5000 care packages to the U.S. female military personnel of color, the "Sister Soldiers", serving our country in the Middle East, will hold on September 24, 2011, in Long Island, New York, the largest Packing Party event in its five year history.

That day and evening, 600 boxes, each featuring ethnic hair care products donated by the Project's long time supporters, SoftSheen-Carson, Organic Root Stimulator, Inc., and "Hype Hair" by Scunci, will be packed and shipped off to the Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Airwomen stationed in the region. Each package will also contain magazines generously donated by Essence, Ebony and Jet Magazines. New York Jet cornerback Darrelle Revis will provide Revis Island Foundation t-shirts for the care packages.

The impetus for this record setting packing event is the energy and effort of Dawn Green, a longtime Long Island resident, who attended her first Sister Soldier Project Packing Party last December, in Harlem. At that time, Ms. Green declared her support of the Project and committed to "doing something big" to bring the Sister Soldiers a taste of the comforts of their normal lives back home.

The Packing Party will be held at the Freeport Recreation Facility, 130 E. Merrick Rd, Freeport, NY, 11520 on Saturday, September 24, from 5:00-8:00 pm. Contact: Dawn Green at 516-428-6734, for further information.

Various Greater New York area churches, business organizations and women's social groups will participate in the event, contributing additional personal care products and postage funds for the shipment. The local Freeport, NY Post Office will bring their retail unit to the Recreation Facility that evening to process and take delivery of the boxes on the spot.

"When I think about the sacrifices these women make, being away from their home and families, to ensure the safety and freedom of all Americans, it brings tears to my eyes", states Dawn Green. "I learned of the Sister Soldier Project and knew immediately I wanted to get as many of these packages as possible to the Sisters. It may not seem a big deal to some, but we Sisters know, 'When we look good, we feel good!' I want them to know we honor, respect and remember their sacrifices"

Myraline Morris Whitaker, Founder of the Sister Soldier Project adds, "We could not have become a national organization, assisting thousands of women military personnel, without the tireless efforts of countless volunteers around the country. Dawn Green is a prime example of the caliber of people who have stepped forward year after year to help the Project reach its goal."
