Sgt. James William Janneh, BA to Be Profiled in Exclusive Registry
Sgt. James William Janneh celebrates three years as an automated logistical specialist for the United States Army

EL PASO, TX, June 07, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Sgt. James William Janneh, an Automated Logistical Specialist & Non-commissioned Officer with the United States Army's 93rd Military Police Battalion, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in logistics management.

Tasked with managing a military unit including supplies, Sgt. James William Janneh was deployed to Iraq for 12 months. He is a fast tracker and born leader. His specific academic interests are criminal justice and law. His passion has always been to enter public service and politics. Sgt. Janneh was brought up in Gambia, where his father worked as an accountant and his mother as a secretary. He has five siblings and countless cousins. His grandfather was a Mandinka village chief, a Muslim, who died at the age of102. His great-grandmother lived to be 110. Sgt. Janneh was very fortunate in his early schooling and is appreciative of his parents for their efforts in this regard. Through grades first to fourth he went to a government-supported Catholic school, fifth and sixth grades in a Methodist mission school, seventh- through 10th grade in a private, non-religious middle school, and 11th and12th grade at the Adelai E. Stevenson High School in the Bronx, NY. Sgt. Janneh's family became increasingly concerned about his future in Gambia after a military coup that overthrew the democratic government in 1994. He came to the United States in 1997, at the age of 16. He stayed with his older sister and her family in the Bronx, and is deeply grateful to her for taking on the role of a surrogate parent. Sgt. Janneh's mentor and former high school mathematics teacher, Mrs. Catherine Chugranis, encouraged him to pursue his higher education. At Bronx Community College, as vice-president of the debating and forensics team, Sgt. Janneh's public speaking, forensics and collaborative skills were shaped, which helped prepare him for work in government, law and politics. In 2006 he married his wife Afua, they have five wonderful children. With the support of his family, Sgt. Janneh joined the United States Army in November, 2007. He became a United States citizen on September 24, 2008.

Sgt. Janneh earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from John Jay College of Criminal Justice, Cum Laude in 2005 and an Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts and Sciences from Bronx Community College with Honors in 2001. He holds a Field Sanitation Team Certification from William Beaumont Army Medical Center (2008) and is qualified with NSA .38 revolver, SA. 9mm and 12 gauge shotgun. Sgt. Janneh completed Level III Basic Security Officer Training Course at the Security and Public Safety Academy and received a Diploma as an Automated Logistical Specialist from the United States Army (2008). He has completed coursework in Army Family Team Building, Department of Defense Information Assurance Awareness, Force Battle Command Brigade Training, and Training and Blue Force Tracker.

Awards and honors with which Sgt. Janneh has been recognized include: Recognition for Excellence in History, Bronx Community College (2001); Recipient, Mel Winter Memorial Scholarship (2001); MVP Scholarship Recipient, New York Yankees Community Council (1999); Dean's List, Bronx Community College; Non-Commissioned Officer Battalion Level for the Year Award; Soldier of the Quarter Brigade and Battalion-Level Award; Two-Time Recipient, Soldier of the Month Award; Second and Third Place, Speech and Debate Team, Dramatics Duo, Junior Community College League.

Looking to the future, he hopes to become a commissioned officer in the United States Army.
