DELAWARE, OH, June 02, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ --John B. Ciochetty, Public Safety Officer in the Department of Public Safety of Ohio Wesleyan University, has been named Cambridge Who's Who Professional of the Year in Campus Safety and Law Enforcement. While inclusion in the Cambridge Who's Who Registry is an honor, only a small selection of members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, years of service, and the credentials they have provided in association with their Cambridge Who's Who membership.
A 24-year veteran of the criminal justice field, John B. Ciochetty has honed his skills in multiple positions in law enforcement and education. He recently celebrated his ninth year as public safety officer at Ohio Wesleyan University. Charged with enforcing laws and university regulations, he patrols the campus, conducts investigations, manages traffic control, and writes reports regarding incidents against property and persons, as well as administers First Aid and CPR, coordinates activities with local fire and law enforcement personnel, and trains new officers.
Prior to joining the university, Mr. Ciochetty was a commissioned Lieutenant in the United States Army Reserves. He also worked previously as a Customs Protection Officer in federal, state and local contracted facilities and as an adult probation officer for the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals as well as for a small growing city in central Ohio. In 2007, Mr. Ciochetty wrote "The Ghosts of Stuyvesant Hall and Beyond" and is presently working on another book. He wrote his first publication, "Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Warfare Defense" as an officer in the U.S. Army Reserves. Widely respected in his field, Mr. Ciochetty received a letter of commendation from the Delaware, Ohio Police Department for assisting a city police officer in subduing a violent subject who presented a clear and present danger to university students.
An alumnus of Marshall University, Mr. Ciochetty completed coursework in criminal justice in 1988 and earned his bachelor of arts in political science, concentration in pre-law studies, in 1980. He holds a certification in crisis intervention from the Delaware Morrow Mental Health and Recovery Services Board of the Delaware City Police Department, a certification in Academy of Counter-Terrorist Education from Denison University, and a certification in campus law enforcement from Purdue University. Mr. Ciochetty looks forward to writing more books and hopes to teach at the college level within the next five years.
