Larocca 'Rocky' Jones Talks with Cambridge Who's Who about her Career as a Federal Employee and her Success with the United States Navy

GAITHERSBURG, MD, May 21, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ --"Hello, my name is Larocca Jones. 'Rocky' is my nickname." This was the greeting with which Cambridge Who's Who was presented during Ms. Jones' most recent interview with the registry. In speaking with 'Rocky,' one comes to understand that her moniker is not only an abbreviation of her first name, but a reflection of her vivacious and spirited personality. "As far as my life has been - professional[ly], personal[ly] or educational[ly] - I don't think I'd change a thing because I've learned from every aspect of my life," she commented. Indeed, Ms. Jones has led an exceptionally successful professional life. Now retired following her 35-year tenure with the federal government, she spent the majority of her career working with the United States Navy as a Personnel Management Specialist.

One might say that Ms. Jones' vocation with the military was a result of best chance and happenstance. After graduating from high school, she accepted a secretarial position with the Navy Hydrographic Office, located in her hometown of Suitland, Maryland. What was not a coincidence, however, was Ms. Jones' drive to excel in her position and her seemingly innate leadership abilities. While working for the Navy, she enrolled at Prince George's Community College, where she earned an associate degree. She went on to attain an administration post with the Office of Naval Research where she thrived in an organizational management position. Ms. Jones oversaw the Naval Research Laboratory as well as the Office of Naval Research award and training programs. This position required that she meet with division and department directors to discuss which awards civilians have been recommended for. She would then make all arrangements for upcoming award ceremonies.

Having worked with the Navy Hydrographic Office, the Naval Ordnance Station at Indian Head, the Naval Research Laboratory and the Office of Naval Research at Arlington, Ms. Jones not only earned the respect of high-ranking officers but was entrusted with sensitive military work. She recalled the following story: "While working for the office of Naval Research, my boss asked me if I would like to run the training program because I had been running the awards program, and I said, 'Mr. Wallace, I would love to, but I don't know the first thing about training.' His response was, 'Yes, but you know how to get along with people. You [will] learn the training.'" She smiled at the recollection and commented, laughing, "It was the best job I ever had."

Aside from her work with the military, Ms. Jones was fortunate enough to travel the world through her participation in several mission trips, which brought her to Russia, Africa and Bolivia. After being exposed to a book about angels by a close friend, she notes becoming "utterly fascinated with the subject." Thus, she established the Angel Circuit through which she conducts lectures on angels. To date, Ms. Jones has given 28 presentations on the heavenly protectors and two sermons. Her other endeavors include acting as an amateur radio operator for KC4UXO and maintaining involvement with the Montgomery Amateur Radio Club (MARC) and the Quarter Century Wireless Association (QCWA). Ms. Jones' additional affiliations include membership with the American Association of University Women and the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association. She is also an active supporter of the American Red Cross, through which she has donated a remarkable 18 gallons of blood over the years.

Late in her career, Ms. Jones returned to the University of Maryland University College and obtained a master of arts in general administration and a bachelor of arts in behavioral science—an testament to her passion for learning and her eagerness to excel not just professionally, but in life. She summed up her interview with a few invaluable pearls of wisdom for her fellow Cambridge Who's Who members. "Keep on keeping on. It took me 28 years to get a master's degree, which was just two years before I retired at age 59. If I can do it, you can do it and so can others."
