Elizabeth Ann Vanausdeln Honored by Cambridge Who's Who for Excellence in Special Education
Elizabeth Ann Vanausdeln specializes in teaching ninth to 12th graders with multiple disabilities
BETTENDORF, IA, November 02, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Elizabeth Ann Vanausdeln, Special Education Teacher at Bettendorf High School, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in special education.
Inspired after watching a teacher conduct a reading session with a special-needs child, Elizabeth Ann Vanausdeln embarked on her own career in special education in 2006. She lends her talents to Bettendorf High School. Assigned to ninth to 12th graders with multiple disabilities, she teaches all subjects and interacts with parents to educate them about services available to their children. Prior to joining Bettendorf High School, Ms. Vanausdeln worked as a student teacher at Neil Armstrong Elementary School, as a paraeducator at Grant Wood Elementary School, as a paraeducator at Paul Norton Elementary School, as a substitute paraeducator for the Bettendorf Community School District, and as a nursery attendant and coordinator for Asbury United Methodist Church.
Before dedicating herself to education, Ms. Vanausdeln served in the Washington State Air National Guard and retired after eight years with the rank of technical sergeant. She considers helping young people reach their potential to be the most gratifying aspect of her career as a teacher. She attributes her success to her persistence and focus on her goals.
Ms. Vanausdeln completed a master's degree in special education, with a concentration in cross-categorical special education, in 2008 from the University of Phoenix, and is proud to have done so while working and raising her family at the same time. She also obtained a bachelor of science in nutrition in 1992 from the University of Idaho. A certified paraeducator, she holds a reading endorsement from the State of Arizona, underwent child abuse mandatory reporter training, and completed Arizona Educator Proficiency Assessments in Professional Elementary Knowledge and Cross-Categorical Special Education. Her professional affiliations include the Bettendorf Education Association and the National Education Association.
At present, Ms. Vanausdeln is busy pursuing her Strategist II endorsement. She plans to continue in special education and aspires to one day work with behaviorally disturbed children through St. Ambrose University.
