L. Christopher Hatcher celebrates a rewarding and successful career as a military nurse
ELLIJAY, GA, January 18, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- L. Christopher Hatcher, Clinical Head Nurse in the United States Army Nurse Corps, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in military nursing.
With 18 years of experience in his field, CPT. Hatcher specializes in pediatric and adult trauma care. As a clinical head nurse in the United States Army Nurse Corps, he is responsible for monitoring daily operations of his department, managing a staff of 45, the budget, evaluations, patient relations and complaints, and operating in compliance with the standards of the union. A Captain in the United States Army Nurse Corps, he recently returned from a second deployment in Iraq where he helped establish an emergency room at Camp Taji where he was the only trauma nurse. He will be leaving for Korea for a year in the beginning of January 2010.
Before deployment, CPT. Hatcher was the clinical head nurse in charge of a 15-bed, 24-hour emergency department that served between 3,200 to 3,700 patients per month. He is also the first sexual assault examiner for pediatrics at Fort Stewart. For many years, he sponsored a military family and provided them with a complete holiday package that they could not afford. If a soldier has been killed on duty, he makes sure the family is provided with everything they need for their holiday. He attributes his success to his ability to treat people and patients with compassion and to his great-grandmother for her inspirational words.
Currently pursuing his Master of Science in Nursing at Norwich University, CPT. Hatcher received his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Dillard University, and he received his state RN license in Louisiana in 2000. He became a licensed clinical head nurse in 2007, a licensed registered nurse in the state of Georgia in 2007, a pediatric life support instructor, a basic life support instructor and faculty, and a certified advanced cardiac life support instructor and trainer in 1989. He holds a certification in assault forensic examiner (adult and pediatric) and completed training in adult and pediatric trauma. He is a member of 38th Parallel Nursing Society, the Rho Psi Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International, The Army Nurse Corps Association, Inc. and the Emergency Nurses Association.
CPT. Hatcher is the recipient of the Military Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Navy Service Medal, the Navy Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the Fleet Marine Force Ribbon and Badge, the Military Outstanding Volunteer Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the Korean Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Iraq Campaign Star, the Army Achievement Medal and the Joint Service Achievement Medal. He intends to obtain an additional master's degree in emergency and trauma care and become a nurse practitioner and teacher.
