HMC Marion D. Walker Honored for Excellence in Military Healthcare
HMC Marion D. Walker was Listed Among the 100 Most Influential Black Women in Philadelphia

WARRINGTON, PA, November 6, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- HMC Marion D. Walker, Leading Chief Petty Officer for Willow Grove Naval Health Clinic, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in military healthcare.

Inspired by her mother, who worked in the medical field, and by her brother, who served in the U.S. Army, Mrs. Walker embarked on a hybrid career in military healthcare 18 years ago. She brought her talents to Willow Grove Naval Health Clinic in 2005. Her responsibilities include managing operations and human resources issues, supervising and mentoring staff, arranging public health assessments from Philadelphia to Delaware, and maintaining 2,500 medical records. Mrs. Walker's entry into military service was fortuitous; approached by a naval recruiter while working in a grocery store, she eventually went on to complete three tours with the U.S. Marine Corps as their hospital corpsman as well as their field medical service school instructor. She attributes her success to her faith in God and the support that she receives from her husband and children.

Mrs. Walker is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. She is a member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, which recognized her in 2008 as one of the 100 Most Influential Black Women in Philadelphia. Additionally, she was honored by IBM with a 2008 STEM Award for Technology. In her spare time, Ms. Walker volunteers with the Sunday Breakfast Rescue Mission, the Union-A Philadelphia Shelter, and the Toys for Tots Foundation. She plans to either teach in some capacity or work in a local veterans affairs hospital within the next five years.
