Steve Thomas Inducted into Cambridge Who's Who Executive, Professional and Entrepreneurial Registry

INSTITUTE, WV, March 19, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Steve Thomas, Professor of Military Science at West Virginia State University, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in military leadership.

Mr. Thomas has been teaching military science at West Virginia State University for the past three years. He also boasts 23 years of professional military service in a multitude of leadership positions and worked with joint, army and civil emergency operations centers for over five years. He is self-motivated, able to make difficult decisions in stressful situations and produce desired results. He has a strong capacity to foster teamwork, motivate team members to achieve organizational goals and manage cross-functional teams. He conducts operations consistently and under budget and bolsters organizational productivity. He has obtained an extensive background in maintenance, supply and logistics. Mr. Thomas speaks on campus and at symposiums and has also received training in the fields of national response, incident planning management and airborne and air assault operations.

At West Virginia State University, he successfully recruits, trains and retains students as future officers of the United States Army. He also oversees four officers and three civilian staff members while developing missions and plans, and setting goals for the division, which consists of 70 cadets and an operating budget of 55,000 dollars.

Mr. Thomas attributes his success to his open-minded nature, hard work and ability to empower others to excel and take responsibility for their actions. He became involved in his profession because he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Reserve Officers' Training Corps and wanted to give back to the United States Army prior to retirement. The highlights of his career were obtaining the rank of lieutenant colonel, serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom and commissioning students as second lieutenants into the United States Army.

Mr. Thomas received a Master's Degree in Human Resource Development from Webster University in 2000 and a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science from Southern University and A&M College in Baton Rouge, LA in 1985. He is a Certified Joint Special Operations Warfighter and a Detailed Inspector General. Mr. Thomas is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., the United States Field Artillery Association, the Association of the United States Army. Honors with which he has been recognized include the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, Historically Black Colleges and Universities Award, Omega Man of the Year and the Colonel Charles Young Award. He enjoys mentoring local high school and elementary school students and acting as a Big Brothers Big Sisters of America volunteer. He aspires to serve as a contractor in the field of program management or work in the governmental sector.
