Making a Difference in the Lives of Wounded Warriors Stars to support Veterans on the Road 2 Recovery


SANTA BARBARA, CA, October 02, 2008 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dozens of injured troops along with celebrities, athletes, and elected officials will participate in the 7 day, 420-mile 2008 Road 2 Recovery California Challenge bicycle ride. Actors Mike Vogel (Cloverfield) is the chair of this year's VA National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans. Patricia Kennedy Founder/CEO of Step Up 4 Vets will present actors Gary Sinise and Ed Begley Jr. with PEACE ONE EARTH medallions.

Sinise and Begley, Jr. are among the participants joining dozens of injured veterans to raise funds to support Spinning and outdoor cycling programs at Military and VA locations around the U.S. and help wounded warriors overcome obstacles they face. The ride will pass several military bases in California.

Wounded warriors from San Diego Naval Hospital, Walter Reed MC, Palo Alto VA, and various VA's throughout the US are expected to participate. A few riders including Cpl. Christopher Lawrence, a veteran injured in the current conflict in Iraq, is one of the veterans who will be supported by Step Up 4 Vets. Other participants include Olympian Wayne Stetina, the Executive Director of the American Legion Aux., and The National Board of the USO

On Sunday, September 28, the ride will leave the San Francisco VA after a 9:00 am ceremony and finish Oct. 4 at the West Los Angeles VA with a USO Concert featuring Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band for veterans, participants, and their families. The American Legion Riders will provide a motorcycle escort during the event and several Posts will sponsor rest stops and dinners including the Elks and City of Solvang, which will host a fundraising dinner on Oct.2.
