Dr. Charles Edward Brodine Honored by Cambridge Who's Who for Excellence in Hematology/Oncology

GAITHERSBURG, MD, October 16, 2008 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Charles Edward Brodine, MD, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of hematology/oncology.
A military healthcare specialist, Dr. Brodine enjoyed a distinguished medical career in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps in areas of internal medicine, hematology, oncology, and medical research. Additionally, he served in the Senior Foreign Service, U.S. Department of State in the areas of preventative medicine and environmental health. A highlight of his Navy medical career was establishing a combat surgical team to evaluate methods of resuscitating severely wounded casualties including through the use of freeze-preserved blood. He coordinated the activities of successive research teams making yearly visits from 1965 to 1969. He attributes his success and longevity in the medical field and to the support of Lois, his wife of fifty-nine years.
Dr. Brodine received his MD from Washington University in 1953 and his Bachelor of Science from Iowa State University in 1949. The Naval awards he received include a Legion of Merit for the research project in Vietnam, a second Legion of Merit for his outstanding performance as commanding officer of the Navy Medical Research and Development Command, the Secretary of the Navy's "Charles Dexter Conrad Award" for outstanding scientific achievements, and the Meritorious Service Medal for research at the Naval Medical Research Institute. Furthermore, he received the Meritorious Honor Award and the Superior Honor Award from the Department of State for outstanding service. Dr. Brodine served with a number of boards and committees including Consultants to the Surgeons General of the Armed Forces, five subcommittees of the National Research Council, National Academy of Science, the Medical Advisory Board of the American Red Cross, the Executive Committee of the National Council of International Health, the Hematology Research Study Section, NIH, and the Advisory Committee, National Sickle Cell Disease, NIH. Dr. Brodine is a member of Who's Who in America, Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in Medicine and Who's Who in Science and Engineering.
