/Military and Defense News Articles/ - October 07, 2006 - Communication is essential for effective planning and response to emergencies. While the Internet has emerged as the leading platform for rapid access and exchange of information, its potential for public safety and disaster response by the general public has not yet been fully realized.

Kido Systems, Inc. plans to change that. As an Internet-based system, Kido can play a vital role in providing individuals, families and businesses with the information, guidance and tools to effectively plan for and respond to a specific natural or man-made disaster:

Specific, targeted information. While everyone can take some basic actions to prepare for any emergency, such as assembling an emergency kit with flashlight, batteries, radio and potable water, different disasters require different responses. Furthermore, some disasters happen with little or no warning and require advanced planning for effective response. Kido provides specific information targeted to each type of natural and man-made disaster with the same goal: to help individuals prepare and respond based on their unique circumstances.

Unique content. The system will provide added value via unique content like expert commentary, the latest research and discussions about how to prepare for disasters and deal with their consequences.
Disaster preparedness tools, such as personalized emergency plans, emergency information cards that can be downloaded and printed, secure storage of personal records and certificates, emergency shelter locations, evacuation routes, emergency contact information and document archival.

Secure communication tools, such as e-mail, fax, voice-over IP (voIP) and chat rooms. These tools will be tailored to specific markets; for example, first responders require a secure space in which to communicate with team members, while individuals and businesses are concerned during an emergency with contacting loved ones and employees/employers.

Kido will deliver these tools and others using three main products:

The Kido Handheld-a portable, light-weight device that can deliver targeted information like maps, evacuation routes, shelter locations and news and weather to individuals, and provides secure communication tools and incident information to first responders in the field.
The Kido Kiosk-standalone and table-top units will be located in public centers, such as malls, office buildings, schools, universities, airports, seaports and government offices, thus making the same critical resources available to traditionally underserved populations.

All three products feature an easy-to-use, step-by-step interface designed to provide rapid, up-to-date guidance, tools and resources for planning for, and responding to, specific natural and man-made disasters.

The Kido system will operate in at least 9 languages and be marketed worldwide via distribution agreements, aggressive promotion and utilization of substantial international contacts like China Mobile Ltd., one of the largest mobile phone companies in the world, which has agreed to help expose Kido systems to the Asian market.

Currently, there is no system on the market that offers consumers personalized disaster planning tools and information. Via its handheld device, kiosk and web-based system, Kido offers:

Disaster planning information for specific natural and man-made disasters, such as hurricanes, earthquakes, tornadoes and acts of terrorism.

Valuable information, studies, research and discussions about how to prepare for and respond to disasters.

The ability to store, download and print medical history and other personal information for use by first responders and other emergency services organizations.

Personalized emergency response plans and emergency information cards, which can be created and printed in a few easy steps.
Up-to-the-minute news, weather, evacuation routs, shelters and much more. Communication tools for communicating with family, associates and friends.

While targeted disaster planning information and secure access to personal information are unique to the Kido system, Kido will provide added value to consumers by partnering with first responder agencies, and eventually with Federal, State and local emergency management agencies, to bridge the gap between the public and those responsible for protecting it.
